WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 7, 2019) — The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund today endorsed San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg for his track record of success supporting wildlife conservation, acting on climate change, and safeguarding our natural resources for future generations. A run-off election is set for Saturday, June 8.
“The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund is proud to endorse Mayor Nirenberg’s re-election. From day one, Mayor Nirenberg has demonstrated his commitment to making San Antonio a leader in protecting water and public spaces, promoting sustainability, and supporting wildlife,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund. “From his commitment to supporting monarch butterfly habitat to his vision for swiftly transitioning the city to 100 percent clean energy to his work protecting Bracken Cave, the summer home of more than 15 million Mexican free-tailed bats, he has set the pace for cities in the Lone Star State and beyond.
“The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund is proud to endorse Mayor Nirenberg’s re-election.”
One of Mayor Nirenberg’s first actions after taking office in 2017 was to renew San Antonio’s commitment to the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayoral Monarch pledge. San Antonio serves as a key resting place for monarchs on their migration route and the City’s actions have earned it the designation as a Butterfly Champion City.
In addition, Mayor Nirenberg has recognized the need for leadership on climate and proposed an action plan to transition San Antonio off fossil fuels by 2030. He also has championed municipal efforts to commit to and meet the obligations of the Paris Climate Agreement.
