ANN ARBOR, Mich. (October 13, 2020) — The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund and four peer conservation organizations are working to mobilize voters for environmental champions in Michigan. The joint effort, Green Wave 2020, is a partnership between the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund and EDF Action, LCV, NRDC Action Fund, and the Sierra Club.
Michigan is one of the 15 states where Green Wave 2020 is boosting candidates in 30 races where one candidate is supporting common-sense climate action and conservation solutions and her or his opponent is not. In coordination with individual campaigns, organizers will work to mobilize the groups’ members to volunteer on the elections and help the environmental community build a Green Wave that is big and strong enough to turn the tide in Washington D.C.
“Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time and it is critical that leaders in Congress are prepared to take action,” said U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.). “Over the last two years I’ve done just that. I am proud to be in this fight with all the Green Wave 2020 groups and appreciate their help on my campaign. I look forward to working with my constituents and key organizations to act on climate and many other pressing environmental problems in the next congress.”
“In Michigan, we know how precious a clean environment is for the air we breathe and the water we drink,” said Kevin Fisher, a Green Wave 2020 volunteer. “I want to make sure we have elected officials who will fight to protect our communities from dangerous toxins like PFAS and lead in our drinking water and so I’m volunteering and doing everything I can to help elect environmental champions in November who will work for a cleaner, safer, and healthier future for all families.”
