WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 6, 2019) — Across the country, voters rallied behind and elected champions for wildlife this week. From Kentucky to Virginia to Texas, voters elected every candidate the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund endorsed and supported a critical wildlife-funding ballot initiative the Action Fund backed in Texas.
“At a time when policymakers seem unable to agree on anything, voters on Tuesday decisively showed that they want champions for conservation and wildlife leading our states,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “Candidates for public office from town council to President should see in these results that voters want officials who champion conservation and prioritize recovering wildlife populations, restoring our public lands, and protecting clean water and air, and acting on climate.”
The endorsees included:
- Kentucky Gov.-elect Andy Beshear (D)
- Virginia State Sen. Emmett Hanger (R)
- Virginia State Del. Wendy Gooditis (D)
- Virginia State Del. Mike Mullin (D)
- Virginia State Sen.-elect Ghazala Hashmi (D)
- Texas Prop 5, a constitutional amendment to direct sales tax revenues from sporting goods toward the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Historical Commission.
