The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund has endorsed Rep. Mike Simpson of Idaho for re-election, applauding his work to sustain and expand America’s public lands, conserve our fish and wildlife, keep our water clean, and protect public health.
“Few members of Congress can match Rep. Simpson’s legacy of conserving public lands and increasing public access. We need his collaborative, bipartisan leadership to keep America’s outdoor agenda moving forward, including renewing the Land and Water Conservation Fund, enacting the Restoring our Parks and Public Lands Act, and passing the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act — a landmark bill to safeguard our wildlife heritage, support state-led conservation, strengthen our economy, and reduce the need for regulatory measures,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund. “The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund is proud endorse Rep. Simpson for re-election.”
Among the highlights of Rep. Simpson’s conservation work:
- Simpson championed legislation to create the Hemingway–Boulders, Jim McClure–Jerry Peak, and White Clouds wilderness areas, conserving more than a quarter of a million acres of public lands in central Idaho.
- Simpson is a cosponsor of the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, which would address America’s wildlife crisis by directing $1.3 billion of existing revenue from federal oil and gas leases towards state-led efforts to recover species at risk.
- A longtime champion of fully funding firefighting efforts, Rep. Simpson worked to ensure the fire funding fix was successful passed in the 2018 omnibus appropriations bill.
- Simpson is the lead sponsor of the Land and National Park Deferred Maintenance (LAND) Act, which would create a dedicated fund of up to $450 million per year for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) through 2024.
The Action Fund’s sister organization, the National Wildlife Federation, recognized Rep. Simpson’s leadership with a 2016 Conservation Achievement Award.
