WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 2, 2020) — The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund has endorsed U.S. Representative Deb Haaland of New Mexico for re-election, citing her impressive track record of championing wildlife conservation, climate action, and environmental justice for Native American communities.

“At a time when wildlife and people alike are facing unprecedented challenges, Representative Haaland has been a clarion voice for conservation,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund. “Whether it’s permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund or ensuring Native American tribes have a seat at the table, Haaland is an unwavering champion for wildlife and the environmental movement.

“We need more leaders like Rep. Haaland in Washington, and the people of New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District are fortunate to have her as their champion. The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund is proud to endorse her for re-election.”

Haaland, who is in her first term representing New Mexico’s First Congressional District, is an original co-sponsor of the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, a bipartisan bill that will confront America’s wildlife crisis and invest in collaborative, on-the-ground conservation for species in the greatest need of conservation.

Haaland also has co-sponsored other critical conservation bills, including the Wildlife Corridors Conservation Act, the Tribal Wildlife Corridors Act, the Red Rock Wilderness Act, the Forestry Renewal Act, and the Reducing Waste in National Parks Act.

As chair of House Natural Resources Committee’s Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands and a member of Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States, Haaland has been a champion for Native American communities and needs. She has worked extensively on legislation to help reduce violence, crime, and abuse in Tribal communities, as well as housing assistance and elderly care.
