WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 8, 2020) — The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund has endorsed U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire for re-election, citing her leading efforts to protect wildlife, crack down on illegal wildlife trafficking, and restore and conserve critical habitat, including national parks, refuges and wetlands.
“Senator Shaheen is a fierce and unwavering ally of wildlife and our outdoor heritage. At a time when Washington is broken, she repeatedly summons her unique ability to reach across the aisle and bring her colleagues together to restore wildlife habitat, crack down on illegal wildlife trafficking, expand outdoor recreation, and defend critical public health and environmental protections,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund. “Most recently, Senator Shaheen’s common-sense bipartisanship helped forge the Senate’s historic passage of the Great American Outdoors Act, which will permanently and fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund and restore crumbling infrastructure in our national parks, wildlife refuges, national forests, and other public lands. Senator Shaheen is also a clarion voice on the need to confront existential threat of climate change, fighting to ensure that the United States does not abandon its irreplaceable leadership role globally, while advancing bipartisan solutions to reduce emissions through energy efficiency, clean energy, and natural solutions.
“New Hampshire and its cherished wildlife and wild places couldn’t have a stronger or more reliable champion in Washington, and the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund is proud to endorse her re-election.”
During her time in the U.S. Senate, Shaheen has championed a range of critical environmental bills. She has led the charge on the Great American Outdoors Act, the Clean Coasts Act, the New England Coastal Protection Act, the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act, and numerous other bills. Shaheen also has worked to ensure the United States acts with urgency to confront the climate crisis by leading the Climate Action Now Act, the International Climate Accountability Act, the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act, and the Clean Economy Act of 2020.
Shaheen has represented New Hampshire in the U.S. Senate since 2009. Prior to joining the Senate, she served as the 78th governor of New Hampshire from 1997 until 2003, where she established the Community Heritage Investment Program, which has conserved more than 230,000 acres of important wildlife habitat across the Granite State. Shaheen currently serves as the ranking member of the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee and sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Senate Armed Services Committee, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
