WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 20, 2020) — The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund has endorsed House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland for re-election, citing his dedication to protecting clean water, acting on climate change, and recovering America’s at-risk wildlife.
“Majority Leader Hoyer is an unwavering ally of America’s wildlife and a champion for clean water. His tireless leadership has resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars of funding to clean up the Bay and its tributaries — the Patuxent, St. Mary’s, Potomac, and Anacostia — and to restore populations of oyster, blue crabs and rockfish. He’s helped expand the Patuxent National Wildlife Refuge, Piscataway Park, and Douglas Point. This Congress, he helped to lead the charge for the Climate Action Now Act, protect the Atlantic Ocean from drilling, defend the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act, and prevent the Trump Administration from eliminating funding for the Chesapeake Bay program,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund. “From restoring at-risk wildlife populations to acting on climate change, the Majority Leader has shown he more than deserves to be re-elected.
“The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund is proud to endorse conservation champion Majority Leader Hoyer for re-election.”
Hoyer has represented Maryland’s 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1981. During that time, he has been an unwavering voice for conservation stewardship and the responsibilities congressional members have to protect the nation’s public lands, clean water, and natural resources for future generations. This session of Congress he has co-sponsored a range of critical conservation bills, including the Climate Action Now Act, the Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network Reauthorization Act of 2019, the National Discovery Trails Act, and the Chesapeake Bay Science, Education, and Ecosystem Enhancement Act of 2019.
