South Dakota is at a crossroads. At stake in this upcoming election is the continuing erosion of the state’s land, water and outdoor heritage.
While much of South Dakota’s leadership has been silent on these important issues, one candidate for governor stands out as willing to fight to protect South Dakota’s conservation legacy and protect its outdoor heritage: Dusty Johnson.
Dusty’s record on conservation issues speaks for itself. His support for and work on the Farm Bill pushed conservation efforts important to South Dakota and other Plains states. These efforts help protect wetlands and grasslands and improve water quality, protecting the foundations of South Dakota’s outdoor heritage and culture.
South Dakota’s residents are facing ever increasing pressure and challenges on their ability to access and enjoy the state’s natural beauty. Dusty is committed to making camping in South Dakota more accessible to in-state residents. Dusty also has proposed expanding walk-in acres in SD by 100,000 acres, which would be beneficial to increasing hunting/recreation opportunities in the state for all.
In just the last decade, zebra mussels have spread rapidly through South Dakota’s lakes and rivers, and presently, South Dakota has no comprehensive plan for addressing that spread. Dusty promises to bring an “all hands on deck” approach to the zebra mussels issue, comprehensively addressing it in a way no other leader has described.
South Dakota’s lakes, streams, wetlands, grasslands, and the wildlife that depend on them, and the people who enjoy them need a governor who will fight for them: Dusty Johnson.
